I am always a fan of traveling with my own bike and I will never compromise when racing. There are too many things which can go wrong I never want to risk racing on a piece of equipment I don't know. But you never know where you might end up when traveling on holiday or vacation where you get the opportunity to cycle. Lesson Learned: It is important to have some of your own essentials to make cycling on an unfamiliar bike a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
- Do I even need to mention your own cycling shorts...but definitely a must.
- I have always kept a spare saddle for these occasions that is exactly like the saddles on my Road and Time Trial bikes. GAME CHANGER - especially for ladies, since most cycle rentals have standard male saddles.
- Your own helmet. Think about it...do you want to wear something on your head which touches your hair and forehead? BRING YOUR OWN.
- Pedals. If you are one who is used to your cycling shoes and having cleats, it is in your best interest to take your own pedals because not all bike rental shops will have the specific pedals to match your cleats. It will make for a much more comfortable ride to have them.
